Jimmy Gnecco - "the heart"

" Jimmy Gnecco's "The Heart" is the sort of singer-songwriter affair that well, sort of reminds me of the aftermath of an affair. After all the sneaky-sex-fun is over, and the cab fair is on the table, next to the left over pizza and a DVD of Spaceballs, there is the inevitable aftermath. The walk of shame someone has to make, the inevitable self-recrimination of the dirty deeds done the night before, the questioning of eating that day-old sausage pizza post-coitus, and wondering if that lingering knot in your stomach is from said pizza, or just knowing your going to miss Mr. or Mrs. Affair, or of just plain old regret. This album will not lift your spirits in a celebratory high-five. It will walk you out of that smelly cab and back into your own place questioning what is it your doing, and why. It's mellow pacing, acoustic-driven songs of longing and doubt will keep you in your bed for days. Should you? Maybe, maybe not...but as for the pizza, definitely not. "

After three albums fronting alt rock band Ours, Jimmy Gnecco's first solo album is arguably the most personal and affecting work of his career. Self-produced and titled 'The Heart,' it's a watershed work which sees Jimmy drop his guard and raise the bar. We all have to reckon with loss and the events that have shaped us sooner or later, and this record is Gnecco's compelling attempt to do just that. Though Jimmy plays every instrument on the album, it's his evocative, soulful voice that takes centre stage, creating 15 songs with a potent mix of intimacy, integrity and beautiful melancholy.
