ALBUM OF THE WEEK

various artists - "sing me to sleep: indie lullabies"

" 'Sing me to sleep: indie lullabies' is an album, with a theme running through it of, "lullabies and popular songs re-imagined as lullabies by some of today’s best indie artists". Among the more obvious covers are "rainbow connection" (re-done by Trespassers William), and "pure imagination" (re-done by The Rest). Among the less obvious are, "asleep" (a Smiths tune re-done by Stars), and "can't get it out of my head" (an ELO song re-done by Telekinesis).

Cover albums are tough to pull off. For me to find it truly interesting, the artists need to take a song and make it their own. Of the 14 tracks on this album (21 if you get the limited edition first pressing), I can't find one that isn't a worthy cover. Better yet, for those with kids at least, this is an album that the whole family can enjoy.

It's also a nice album to relax with after a rough day.

And 100% of the proceeds from the album goes to the Valerie Fund to provide suppot for the comprehensive health care of children with cancer and blood disorders.

Good cause, good album. 'Nuff said." - Lazlo
