Readymade Breakup - "Readymade Breakup"

Readymade Breakup's self-titled record is a radio-friendly rock and roll record, with those big choruses that could very well net this bunch o' fellows the brass ring. There is a power pop element to this batch of songs, Beatles-esque harmonies, and lyrical content that would place it firmly into heart of your sweetie.

My only criticism happens to be (other than with "Unzip My Face" and one more) is that the tempos all remain in the "safe" zone. Safe for national airplay, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I sometimes want a little kerosene with my kool-aid, if you get my drift. That's just personal taste, so take that for what you will.

Rating 6/10 (I was going to give it a 5, but the harmonies grab it another point.)

Like every great rock band, Asbury Park, NJ’s Readymade Breakup is the sonic clash of four distinct personalities butting heads to create a sound that transcends its parts. After forming in 2004 with all members smarting a bit from previously shattered bands, they formed skeptically...hence, the name. But in a twist of irony, the band has stayed together for two full length records, hundreds of shows, one breakup, one reunion and now returns with their third full length studio effort.

The new self-titled release, produced by Steve Evetts (The Cure, Saves The Day, Dillinger Escape Plan) is the group's most ambitious work to date. The melodies recall the stickiest hooks of The Replacements or Sloan with a lyrical earnestness that no doubt owes a great debt to the band's hometown kin Bruce Springsteen. But when the craftsmanship of Rosevear's songwriting is punctuated by hi-watt blasts of powerchords (Jim Fitzgerald), punk-influenced basslines taken straight from the pages of Milo Goes To College (Gay Elvis) and anchored by a stadium-sized rock drummer (Spicy O’Neil… his old band did open for Bon Jovi after all), it is a sound that doesn’t leave you much of a choice in the matter. They clash, you listen.
