Tegan And Sara - "get along"

This CD/DVD collection is fascinating, insightful and entertaining, showcasing a live set from Tegan And Sara (culled from two intimate performances recorded and filmed at a warehouse studio in Vancouver). Unlike so many live albums that don't feel live, listening to the CD with my eyes closed I felt like I was sitting at the studio hearing it “live”. The choice of songs is a nice mix of stuff throughout their career, although noticeably absent is “walking with the ghost”.

The DVD is made up of three segments. Two documentaries (“States”, and “India”), that are more than just typical promotional films that major labels produce. Both offer profiles of the band and their friends and family and help to give a deeper understanding of Tegan And Sara, and I found highly enjoyable. The third segment, “For the Most Part”, is, for the most part, the same songs from the CD accompanied by the video footage from the performances. Some of their between song banter was included on the DVD, which added some value other than what was already on the CD, but of the three DVD segments, this was my least favorite (only because it was so similar to the CD).

All in all I think this is a worthwhile addition for fans of Tegan And Sara, as well as people less familiar with the band. Going into this collection I was familiar with several of their songs, but would not have called myself a fan. This collection has made me much more interested in diving more deeply into their back catalog.
