1. MESSAGE FROM LAZLO

At long last I can announce the details of BLOWUPRADIO.COM's ANNIVERSARY BASH. The big bash will happen on Saturday December 15th at the Broadway Central Cafe in South Amboy, NJ. Here's the official announcement hot off the press:

SPECIAL BLOW-UP RADIO RELEASE/ANNIVERSARY BASH/TOYS FOR TOTS BENEFIT

On December 15th, 2001, blowupradio.com will celebrate its one year anniversary with a big party at The Broadway Central Cafe in South Amboy. The party, which will include performances from some of New Jersey's best bands, will benefit the United States Marines’ Toys for Tots program.

It was one year ago that former WDHA DJ Larry Seltzer took the alias of Lazlo, and created an internet radio station to support the New Jersey music scene.
"I was always bothered by the lack of support commercial radio gave to our local music scene, and figured starting a web-site and Internet station dedicated to the scene might help the music community", says Lazlo.

He was not only interested in helping the music scene, but the local community as well;
"I wanted to have a concert to celebrate how blowupradio.com has really become a part of the NJ music scene, but I also wanted to help the community and make the show a benefit.  My first thought was of course to help the Red Cross or some other worthy cause relating to the tragedy of September 11th, but then I read how other charities are not getting donations because of everyone donating to that cause and I thought of needy children without presents this holiday season.  Toys for Tots then became the obvious choice."

The concert, produced in association with
World Beyond Network, will include performances by:

The Churchills

Where's Mary

High Speed Chase

Val Emmich

Logs in the Mainstream

Nicki Jaine

And the possibility of some special 'Xmas Mystery Guests' is in the air;.
"I'm working on some surprises for the show.  There may be some well known musicians who got their start in NJ at this little show..."

INCIDENTAL

Admission is 18/Up, 21 w/ID to drink, doors 830 PM, $8 Cover.

WHAT TO DO

In addition to proceeds from the show going to Toys for Tots, we ask all guests to bring a new unwrapped toy for a child between 6 months and 16 years old.  Anyone who brings a toy to donate will receive a special CD compilation featuring songs by the artists performing and possibly a few special tracks by other NJ bands.

I hope everyone will come out to celebrate blowupradio.com's anniversary and more importantly to help a good cause and hear a great night of music.

Nicki Jaine, who will be playing our anniversary bash, was a musician who I had the pleasure of seeing on Friday when I went down to the Saint. By the way, Happy Birthday to the Saint which turns 7 years old this week. I remember when they first opened and didn't even have a stage per se (just a mat on the floor). They've come a long way and become one hell of cool venue...but I digress. So I went to see Nicki Jaine, who is a little waif of a girl who I believe is in her early twenties. So she gets up on the stage with her acoustic guitar and starts belting out songs with a voice that sounds like someone twice her age. Whereas many young female singers try to sound like Gwen Stefani or (ugh!) Britney, Nicki has a sound that is timeless. Sure she sounds modern, but she also has a sound that would easily fit in an old cabaret speakeasy from yesteryear. And she has that Julia Roberts like smile to boot. So yes, I was immediately won over and asked her to be a part of blowupradio.com's anniversary bash. You can hear her song, "pink and blue" on our webcast.

Hopefully I'll see you all Wednesday night at the big Pre-Thanksgiving Bash I am hosting at O'Donnell's Pub, as it should be a lot of fun. Everyone have a good Thanksgiving and gooble-gooble-hey, gooble-gooble-gooble-hey (with all apologies to the Ramones)
