2. MESSAGE FROM LAZLO
Wednesday night was one of those nights where I was so glad to be able to turn a tragedy into something beautiful. On the one year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, 18 local artists got together to sing and help raise money for the Memoria Project. It was a wonderful evening of music and friendships (both old and new), and I am thankful to everyone that made the night so special.
Wednesday night helped me remember part of the reason I started doing blowupradio.com nearly two years ago. One of the main reasons was to help bring the music fans and performers together to form a local music community, and I think we step closer to that everytime a marathon type event works, brings fans out and lets musicians see others from the scene and build friendships.
The other main reason I started blowupradio.com was to play songs that I couldn't play when I worked for WDHA. In my teen years I discovered a show called, "Idiot's Delight", hosted by Vin Scelsa. The show, which now airs Saturday nights on 90.7FM out of NYC, was then and is even more so now, one of the few places where the DJ has complete control over what he plays. Therefore his show is always fresh and unpredictable. If not for Vin Scelsa's show (and the cult film, "Pump Up The Volume"), I may never have wanted to do radio at all.
So I was thinking about that the last few weeks and realized there are all these great songs out there that I'd love to play, but aren't by NJ artists. Some of these songs may even be lesser known songs by more well known artists. I wanted a place to play these songs, but I never want to take away from what blowupradio.com is, as I love playing NJ bands. With that in mind I do hereby introduce, "Lazlo's Den".
"Lazlo's Den", will be a new monthly show where I will play several hours worth of music spanning the globe. Which means all you non-NJ bands that wanted to be heard on blowupradio.com can get in touch with me, because this will be the place where you can be heard. This show may include local musicians as guests spinning some of their favorites side by side with mine. The show will premiere in early October and will air several times throughout the month. This is all about playing good music, be it a local artist, an indie band or the Beatles. You never know what you will hear in "Lazlo's Den", except that it is music I think the world should hear.
That's all I have to say right now. I'd love to hear thoughts/opinions on "Lazlo's Den", if you have any.
