Message From Lazlo

Hi Everyone,

Quick thought before I get to the music related stuff...

Did anyone else notice that gas prices started going down in mid-November, just a few weeks before the holiday shopping season started, and prices started heading back up just a few days after Christmas? Curious...

Anyway, over the weekend I finally recorded and put up a new podcast. I knew people were downloading it, but the amount of e-mails I got asking why there was no new podcast was truly enlightening. I will do my best to keep the podcast updated on at least a bi-weekly basis.

NJ Bands who have not already given me permission to use their music on the podcast that would like to should e-mail me at Lazlo@BlowUpRadio.com.

~~~~~~~~~~
I was just thinking the other day after the first successful Folk You! show of the new year at The Goldhawk last Wednesday, how in less than 3 years Folk You! has grown so much. The first show at the Rodeo Ristra in Hoboken back in April 2003, which lead to the monthly residency there until it closed, followed by one month at the Shannon Lounge, which then closed. Both venues of which I have to thank Ivy and her Artkore series, for inviting me in.
When it seemed all Hoboken acoustic venues were gone, the shows moved to SICA in Long Branch, where they continue the 2nd Saturday of every month (which means there's a show there this Saturday). I am thankful to Doug, Rachel and everyone else that makes SICA a wondeful venue and a very cool art museum.
Then, with the help of Jim Testa and co-sponsorship of his 'zine, Jersey Beat, Folk You! returned to Hoboken for sporadic shows at The Goldhawk. Those shows have now led to a monthly show there on the first Wednesday of every month, and I am very thankful to Fran and everyone else at The Goldhawk, who could not be friendly, more supportive people.
And as always, I am very thankful to all of you who come out and support these shows, because without you I wouldn't be able to put these shows on every month.
Like I said above, this Saturday is another Folk You! show at SICA, and this month's show is extra special because it is being done entirely by Jim Testa. That's right, due to a family obligation, I will not be at this Saturday's show, but I put the line-up and the show in the trustworthy hands of Jim Testa and he put together such a good line-up that I curse him I will not be able to make it to witness it myself, but I hope you will.
Stuyvesant - 'quit more often'
Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, STUYVESANT is the reincarnation of two New Jersey rock bands that were born in the early 90s. Footstone and Friends, Romans, Countrymen shared many a stage and a lust for the Spinal Tap ethos, "have a good time, all the time!"...
Downshallow seeks new bassist...
Greetings,
We'd love to start by wishing a happy new year to you all.
But some unfortunate news on the homefront. Downshallow has parted ways with Ant, our good friend/bass player of 5 years.
No details are necessary ... but we will miss all the good times and good tunes...Over the course of this band, Ant's been a big part of Downshallow and we wish him well on his future musical endeavors.
But, as they say, we have to move on...(more)
