Lazlo's Top 20 Albums of 2006
2006 is coming to a close, and I was asked by my friends at Upstage Magazine to compile my top 20 albums of the year. I hate doing these things, for several reasons ...(more)

I am Time magazine's person of the year!
Wow, what a week! First BlowUpRadio.com celebrates it's 6th anniversary, and now Time Magazine names me Person of the Year! Ok, so that's not exactly true, they named all of us who, "control the Information Age", through the use of the World Wide Web. ...(more)

Alex Brumel: "the next big thing" from NJ? For me there is nothing like that feeling of witnessing a stellar performance by a rising star, and just feeling lucky to have seen the performance in a small venue before the artist breaks into the big time. Living in NJ, where there seems to be something in the water that makes good musicians, this feeling happens pretty regularly. Unfortunately, most of the rising stars I see end up toiling around the NJ music scene, playing stellar performances night after the night for small audiences, and never getting noticed, or worse, getting noticed by a major label, and then getting screwed by the label...(more)

Album of the Month
Wiser Time
"there ands back again"

Wiser Time originated in the small town of Millington, NJ by singer/songwriter/guitarist, Carmen Sclafani in the spring of 2002. Sclafani had been a fixture in the local music scene, performing in bars and clubs during the evenings, while working as a commercial artist during the days. He had been performing with various incarnations under the Wiser Time moniker when he came across music veteran/producer/guitarist, Anthony Krizan (Spin Doctors, Lenny Kravitz, John Waite), performing at a local club.

Message From Lazlo

Hi Everyone,

Happy Martin Luther King Day!

In honor of the great civil rights leader, please tune into Lazlo's Den tonight at 8pm. I'll be broadcasting Dr. King's, "I have a dream" speech in it's entirety.

Last week I introduced a Chat Room to BlowUpRadio.com, and so far it's not been a rousing success. Actually, it's been pretty much a ghost town. But I am not ready to give up on the idea yet. I hope that in the days and weeks ahead, you will stop by and check out the Chat Room. Utilize it as a place to come together as a local music scene and discuss the music, the venues, the shows...whatever. I just would like to see it be used in a positive fashion to help make us more of a community.

A friend of mine, and local musician, recently commented to me how fragmented our scene is. There are little cliques here and there, but nothing unifying us together into a larger scene. I've always hoped that BlowUpRadio.com could help foster that larger scene community, and that is why I put a chat room on the site.

The Chat Room is the first of several things I will be adding to BlowUpRadio.com. I hope to be able to make an announcement about another thing in next week's newsletter.

If anyone has any ideas for things to be added to BlowUpRadio.com, please e-mail me.

Don't forget that this Saturday (Jan. 20th), marks the return of the BlowUpRadio.com Free Concert Series to Buddie's Tavern in Parlin.

Buddie's Tavern is conveniently located right off of route 9 at 277 Johnsons Lane, Parlin (Sayreville), NJ. The bar also never charges a cover, has reasonably priced drinks, and a food menu that includes burgers, pizza, sandwiches and snacks!

And appearing this Saturday is:

Goba - The self described, "worst band in NJ", is actually just a good way to describe their self-depricating humor. Their blend of hard rock, punk, and pop is not only fun, but far from being on my worst list.

Mike Ferraro - Playing as an electric duo with one of his Young Republicans on drums, Mike's music ranges somewhere between pop, grunge, and indie rock, taking the best aspects of all of those styles.

Kosmic Daydream - Picture if you will catchy pop-jam rock, fronted by a female whose vocals remind me of Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde). They are unique and an incredible live band (as their recent "live" CD can attest to).

I hope to see all of you out at this installment of the BlowUpRadio.com Free Concert Series. It is only with your support that I can continue to do these free shows.

Lastly, the Black River Music & Art Fest will be returning to Chester again this summer. Last year we had 21 local bands on 3 stages playing to over 6000 people at this free, outdoor event. This year's event, which I am part of the planning crew on, we're hoping to do even beter! Mark your calendars now, for Sat. Aug. 18th, and the return of the Black River Music & Art Fest.

More information, including the band application to be a performer at the fest, is available at www.blackrivermuscifest.com

Peace,
Lazlo
