Concert Picks Of The Week

Lazlo (BlowUpRadio.com)

'Tis the holiday season, but here's one party that's not about the holidays. Wednesday night at the Saint help celebrate Lindsey Miller's Birthday with sets by The Emancipation Congregation / The Sunday Blues / Divine Sign / Angry Snatch.

~

Jim Testa (Jersey Beat)

Twas the day after Christmas
and down at the Court
the old geezers were rocking
with a huff and a snort
3 To Six Inches and Buzzkill, I hear,
both reuniting to bring holiday cheer
and if that's not enough for you Hub City fanatics
we've also got Stuntcocks and Prosolar Mechanics
and that clattering sound up on the roof
one hopes it's just reindeer hot on the hoof
and some jolly fat elf in a big silver sleigh...
- not just the taxman, with more bills to pay!
So drink lots of shots and spirits and beer
Merry Christmas to all... and a solvent New Year!

Saturday, December 26

Pissed Off!

From the Associated Press:

“A Maine legislator wants to make the state the first to require cell phones to carry warnings that they can cause brain cancer, although there is no consensus among scientists that they do and industry leaders dispute the claim.”
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091220/ap_on_bi_ge/us_cell_phone_warnings

So let me get this straight, science has NOT proven that cell phones cause brain cancer, but Maine Rep. Andrea Boland, as well as San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, each have legislation pending in their local government to put stickers on cell phones saying that it DOES cause brain cancer?!?!?

Let’s put aside the libel law suits that cell phone makers will undoubtedly (and rightfully so) file, should either of these bills pass.

No, what horrifies me about this is that instead of backing science, they are siding the same types of rumors that get passed around in e-mails that Snopes (and other such sites), do a good job of debunking.

This “labeling” is the creationist version of things. If we don’t have scientific proof, or even any cases of brain cancer that MAY have been caused by cell phones, how can we allow our government to put a label on a cell phone stating something that there is no concrete proof is true.

Look , if concrete scientific proof comes forward, I’ll be all for the labels, but until that day happens it’s irresponsible to put a label stating something that is not fact.

I urge you all to e-mail both of the legislators and let them know that while their heart may be in the right place, creationist labeling is wrong.

That's all for this week folks.
