Hey Everyone,

The Saturday’s BlowUpRadio.com Free Concert @ Buddie’s Tavern will have super-sized sets...I think.

Here’s the deal folks, Mike Kovacs is doing his first show out in a while, and Zigman Bird is releasing their new album at this show, both of which are going to make this night special!

Unfortunately John Rango & Friends will not be able to be part of this show due to circumstances beyond their control. We will have them on a future BlowUpRadio.com Free Concert Series show.

If anyone wants to fill in for Rango and do a set this Saturday, get back to me ASAP, otherwise, Mike Kovacs and Zigman Bird will be playing longer sets. This is a win any which way you look at it.

So come on down to Buddie’s Tavern this Saturday night, and support live original music!

Buddie's Tavern is located at 277 Johnsons Lane, Parlin (Sayreville), NJ

It is hard to believe that "YOU BELONG TO THE MINUTES" (out on 7/13) is THE UGLY CLUB's first full length album. This hard working NJ band has put out some successful EP's in the last few years, and played a plethora of shows both in the area, and touring. While their EPs have been very enjoyable, they were also casualties to poor production value, and a few songs felt to me like they had lost their way. The EPs were apparently a learning curve which has led to a wonderful debut full length album that has none of those issues. "You belong to the minutes", is 48 minutes of indie pop. Each song is perfect and infectious. Several days after listening to the album, and having listened to countless more albums in-between, some of The Ugly Club's songs were still stuck in my head, whereas other albums I struggled to remember what any of the songs sounded like.
Get hooked yourself by downloading two of The Ugly Club's songs for free (you should also pre-order "you belong to the minutes" while on the site), here:

The Ugly Club have two upcoming shows in NJ:
July 13 - CD Release Show @ Maxwell's w/ Socratic, Jeremy Benson, & Charlie Sztyk
July 21 - The Saint - Asbury Park, NJ - w/ Arlan Feiles (his CD Release Party)

SHONEN KNIFE are back with their latest offering, “POP TUNE”. Long before someone coined the term Ramonescore, this all girl Japanese band were doing it, and they still do it better than the rest. Long Live Shonen Knife!

Growing up in the 80’s it was hard not to like synth pop, because there was so much of it on the radio. These days there seems to be a resurgence of 80’s sounding synth pop on the indie scene, and some of it is absolutely sublime. For instance STEPDAD, their new album, “WILDLIFE POP”, put a huge grin on my face, made me get up and dance and sing along. Music is supposed to make you feel, and this album made me feel like I was wrapped in synthy, harmonious bliss. Lovely vocals, lovely music, lovely album.
Feel the love, download the first track from “wildlife pop” (“must land running”) for free at their website:

I’ve said many times before here how much I love Classic Country music, which also can go by the title of Americana or Alt-Country. Whatever you call it, MAYNARD AND THE MUSTIES now how to make it. Maynard and his revolving line-up of friends (mostly from the book industry which is his day job) create honest, moving music. On “CHEAP CIGAR”, there is just the right amount of fiddle and slide guitar, along with relatable songs about, life, love, and loss…I mean who can’t relate at some point in their life to a song titled, “my heart feels like a railroad tie”? I’m gonna go crack open another can of beer and listen to this again.

And I leave you this week with the video for COSMO JARVIS’ new hit (at least on Lazlo’s Den), “LOVE THIS”, from his forthcoming album, “THINK BIGGER”. His last album was my second favorite album of last year, and I “love this” new album coming out next week (pardon the bad play on words, but I really do love the new album, and you should too)
