Lowlight - "Bones"

"Bones" by Asbury Parks Lowlight is a place to rest your "ship wrecked heart". It's a beautiful blend of ambient splendor and singer-songwriter craftsmanship. This small sampling is only a portion from a sure to be New Jersey classic album, "Where Do We Go From Here". Songwriter Renee Maskin shares with us how the band approached this dusty road treasure.

Renee- "Songwriting is a funny process. You spend so much time whittling away at some songs. Trying to make a rooster out of a stick. Just chopping away bit by bit at some vision of some thing that you hope comes to fruition. And then, there are these magical little moments where songs just appear. A beacon through the fog. "Bones" is one of those songs. I didn't have to work for it, it just kinda showed up, wild and wide-eyed, staring at me in the face.

I started playing "Bones" at my solo gigs and Lowlight heard it. We were a brand new band at the time. They decided to ask if we could adopt it and work on it together, which they felt to be a bold move on their part. I was thrilled that they asked though. I'm very fortunate to be playing with my bandmates. They are immeasurably talented, and we are very much connected as friends and collaborators. They've elevated that song beyond my wildest dreams for it. The bed of synths, the creeping guitars, ethereal lap-steel, all painted over a subtle groove of bass and drums. I think it captures the beautiful tension that the lyrics are trying to scratch at. Dark and lovely."

Lowlight is about to embark on a mid-western tour, eventually ending up back east for their record release show at the Asbury Park Yacht Club on August 27th. Stream "Bones"
