2. MESSAGE FROM LAZLO
So it's Oscar night, and once again I am reminded how only the mainstream is ever really honored. Independent film, like the indie music scene, is rarely, if ever acknowledged by the mainstream, and when it is, it is only because the film sells a lot of tickets (i.e. "Memento", "In the Bedroom"). Does this mean that a lesser known film, or lesser known band that is really good isn't worthy of awards? Hell no! They are probably more deserving, because they aren't getting the promotion or money that the bigger names get.
So where am I going with this rant? Basically this is a long winded way for me to, as always, talk about supporting the local music scene. When you hear a band you like on blowupradio.com, go to their website, buy their album, see them live...let them know that you like their music. Most local bands need your encouragement to go on making music, because they usually aren't making much (if any) money off of their music.
So you're thinking, "I don't want to spend money to see some bands that might suck live." Well, we at blowupradio.com understand your concerns and that's why beginning tomorrow you will hear 2 concerts every week on blowupradio.com. You see the big mention of Artist Amp Live and @ the Show above, and in addition to those new programs, the first of a new semi-regular interview series called, Hanging with the Band, will begin on Thursday April 4th.
And for the premiere of Hanging with the Band, we've got a double feature for you. First a short interview with the new band double-breasted to wet your appetite for their debut performance at Maxwell's on April 6th. Right after that, an in depth interview with another band performing on April 6th, Particle Zoo. In this laid back interview with Particle Zoo, they will discuss their new CD, "It's in the Cans", and you will hear many of the tracks on the new CD. The CD, incednetially, will be released at the Maxwell's on April 6th, a show co-sponsored by blowupradio.com and Artist Amplification.
So remember, there's nothing wrong with mainstream...well some of it anyway, but remember the indie artists too. Most of the best indie artists will get watered-down a few years from now and packaged as the "new sound" to top 40 radio anyway, this way you can say you heard the one's who originated it.
And just for the record, the best film of last year, in my opinion, was, Waking Life. How dare the Academy even consider, "Lord of the Rings", Best Picture worthy.
OK, I definitely need to step of the soapbox now...
