So, why don't I take this space to discuss a show I saw this weekend. It's been a while since I've done one of these, but I did see a really cool band on Friday night over at the Loop Lounge and since I have this empty space staring at me, why don't I give them a deserved plug. My Pocket Zoo is a band that is really hard to describe. On their recordings that have a much more dance/techno/rock vibe going, but live they...well someone described them the other day as a, "skiffle band", and that may not be far off the mark. They mix, "rockabilly, disco, and lounge music", into a pop rock creation that makes you want to dance and rock out at the same time, and to top it off lead singer Lloyd Gold can often times be seen playing a ukelele!?!?! (their song, "ukelele boy band" is a laugh riot!) This band has fun on stage and it shows, and while their songs may be silly and fun & even their stage presence has an obvious hint of silliness to it (they have a dancing robot on the stage...no I'm not kidding), their songs are so catchy, that they obviously put a lot of time and effort into them.

Actually I think I'm glad I had nothing else to write in this space this week, because it's nice once in a while to plug a good band like My Pocket Zoo. Of course there are so many good bands coming out of NJ, and I can't write about all of them. But, I may start writing a few more of these show reviews from time to time.
