Message From Lazlo

Hi Everyone,

You know what sucks? Having a sinus infection.

Last Wednesday night I missed the Folk You! show at The Goldhawk because I wasn't feeling good. By Thursday night I was running a fever. Friday I finally went to the doctor and was given an antibiotic for the sinus infection. Here I sit Monday still a bit out of it, with a nasty cough and a box of tissues always in the ready position.

Which means tonight I will be missing the Chris Barry Memorial at The Saint, which I was was supposed to speak at. But if you can make it down there tonight, I highly recommend you go. If you want to read about Chris Barry, I blogged about him here.

~~~~~~~~~~
Here's hoping I get healthy before the weekend, because BlowUpRadio.com has a couple of great shows that we're sponsoring.
First on Friday is an awesome show at the Underpass:
Then on Saturday, it's the end of an era, as Souls' Release plays their last show in their current incarnation. This is a particularly personal show for me as I have known Josh & Nick (from their previous bands) pretty much since the inception of BlowUpRadio.com. When Josh & Nick started Souls' Release, one of their first shows was a Folk You! show, where they met Jon, who would become their bassist. And the current line-up, including Sean on drums, was one of the bands to play at my wedding just last year.
As a side note, the new incarnation of Souls Release, will debut at next month's Folk You! show.
~~~~~~~~~~

I'd like to end this week's message with what I had prepared to say tonight to open Chris Barry's memorial show at The Saint:

So somehow I ended up opening tonight's memorial show for Chris Barry. Don't worry, I'm not going to speak long. I think that's what Chris would have wanted.

I first met him back in the 90's when the Saint first opened, and Chris hosted the spoken word night. He gave me my first opportunity to perform my poetry in front of people. Years later, shortly after starting BlowUpRadio.com, I ran into him again at the Broadway Central Cafe. When BlowUpRadio.com was still learning to crawl, he believed in it, and wrote a long article about it for his column in the Aquarian. And when BlowUpRadio.com wanted to do it's 1st anniversary show, Chris offered me the night of my choice at the Broadway Central Cafe...that's just the type of guy he was.

I was recently going through old e-mails from Chris that I had, and came across this e-mail from him that I'd like to share with you all tonight:

subject: Do ya $)#*@*ing believe ti? No Last Hurrah on Broadway now

Stop me if you heard this one before;
I just heard/Wayne finally lost it/I.E. From what I understand Wayne was closed abruptly by the town yesterday or today for operating without a license/??/and/or other nefarious activity like purchasing his beer at Krauszer's...

Its just too bad the whole thing couldn't end with a little dignity, or class. Whatever. Then again, maybe its a miracle that Wayne stayed in business as long as he did..

Just my 2 cents...I mean we all thought it sucked to begin with that the Broadway was closing, but to have it end abruptly without any decent send-off is mildly heartbreaking.

But hey, I'll get over it, as I'm sure you all will or already have.. Thanks. I just needed to share that.

Chris B

Chris, it sucks that your life ended so abruptly, the local music scene will never be the same without you. But tonight we aim to give you a decent send off with diginity and class.

RIP Chris

Peace,
Lazlo

Temporary Grace - 'priorities'

Temporary Grace Rock and Roll's true spirit of rebellion is reborn in the music of Temporary Grace. Exposing society's shallow ideals and exploring the depths of the human heart and mind, this four-piece rock band pumps rhythm and intellect through its audience like blood through the veins. With Rob Eelman fronting the band, Chuck Epperly on guitar, Anthony Crotta on bass, and Greg Forney pounding the drum skins and cymbals, Temporary Grace delivers the fix you've been jonesin for.
