Supporting New Jersey's Local Music Scene Since 2000

Album of the Month
The Milwaukees - "American Anthem Vol. 1"

With, "American Anthems vol. 1", The Milwaukees have crafted an album that to me is really a perfect interweaving of two different albums. The first two songs on the CD are fist pumping, air guitar playing, sing along, rock songs. then the album takes a sharp turn, without being jarring to the listener, into a more Roots Rock/Americana/Alt-Country ballad for the next two tracks. As strong as their rock songs are, and they really are fun, the real emotional connection for the album comes through in these powerful, soulful ballads. The album continues to perfectly ping pong between rock songs and Americana ballads, leaving me wanting more when the nearly 41 minute run time of the CD ended.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Message From Lazlo

Hi Everyone,

There's only one thing to talk about this week and that is of course that this Friday & Saturday is the big 2 day Spondalytis Association of America benefit concert (http://www.spondylitis.org) at Buddie's Tavern, 277 Johnsons Ln., Parlin (Sayreville), NJ.

Over the year's I have been proud to be involved with many benefit shows for various causes, but never have they been more personal then this show. My wife, Naomi, suffers from Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), so I have seen the chronic pain and discomfort that she goes through daily as a result of this disease.

All money collected over the course of the 2 days, from donations, a percentage of the food & drink purchased at Buddie's tavern, and from a raffle/tricky tray, will go directly to the Spondylitis Association Of America for research.

About the Spondylitis Association Of America:

"SAA is a non-profit organization and we were the first and remain the largest resource for people affected by spondylitis. Through our efforts, we help advance education, research and treatment for ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and related diseases. Literally thousands of people visit this site seeking information, support and most of all, hope. For over 20 years SAA has dedicated all of its resources to help improve the lives of people coping with spondylitis."

With well over 20 local bands and solo performers playing over the course of the 2 day event, there is sure to be music for everyone, from acoustic/folk, to pop/rock, to garage/punk.

Here is the complete schedule of performers:

Concert Picks of the Week

Lazlo (BlowUpRadio.com)

Of course my pick for this week is the 2 day Spondylitis Association of America benefit happening Friday & Saturday at Buddie's Tavern (277 Johnsons Ln., Parlin (Sayreville), NJ). Besides having over 20 amazing local acts over the course of Friday night and all day and night Saturday (see elsewhere on this page for the complete list), we'll be raising money to help in the research for a cure for a condition that my wife, Naomi, suffers from. So come out, support a great cause, and see some great live local music!

The Ergs!, Hunchback - Maxwell, 1039 Washington St. Hoboken - 9 pm, $7, 18+

The Ergs! are far and away the best punk band to emerge from NJ since the glory days of the Bouncing Souls, punk rock classicists who bring the energy and innovation of early SST Records artists like Black Flag, the Descendents, and the Minutemen and mix them with sugar-coated melodies and lyrics that inspire massive singalongs. Opening is the New Brunswick noise-core combo Hunchback.
