Lazlo’s Corner

The Jersey Shore Music Fest took place over the weekend, and we were there to cover it, Jay Ingstrup is writing his review as I type this, and I have a ton of photos from the event.

The thing is, I know Jay’s review is ultimately not going to be a positive one, and I know why too.

We saw some awesome bands on Saturday, many which I knew beforehand, some of which I saw for the first time Saturday. That is usually a sign of a good festival, but that is only part of the story.

While I have nothing but respect for anyone who tries to put together a festival of any size, especially this size (as I have helped put together a few fests myself), there were many mistakes made, ranging from the small nuisance (press passes were not at will call as instructed...never did find where they were, and we were there 10 hours), to major problems (stages too close together causing you to hear three different bands while standing by one stage, sound on some stages was so bad that it was unlistenable, not much in the way of food vendors & none for vegetarians after the empanada vendor left at 3pm, free water that tasted so bad it irritated my throat...the list really could go on and on).

At BlowupRadio.com I like to keep things positive. Sure, constructive criticism is a good thing and I am all for it, but it is difficult to say much nice about the fest other than some great bands were involved (though as mentioned not always able to hear them), and I hope the fest learns from its mistakes.

I believe Jay has not written as polite a review and has chosen to redact portions of his review to try to keep it nice. His review should be up tomorrow night.

Next year Jay & I want to be able to write that it was an awesome festival...or at least greatly improved.
