Hey Everyone,

We have two very special summer shows coming to Espresso Joe’s Twilight Concert Series (outdoors overlooking the bay).

Saturday June 21st will be the first BlowUpRadio.com presents Collaborations!

From 6pm until 9pm you will be able to see rare pairings of musicians performing sets together!

The June 21st show will feature:
George Wirth & Peter Myers
Tommy Strazza & Deirdre Forrest
Steve Honoshowsky & Pat Veil
David Fagan & Pat Veil
David Fagan & Vic Fraternale
Fairmont & The Maravines

There will be a second show, with a completely different lineup, on Saturday July 19th.

Mark both dates on your calendar, because you may never these pairings again!

The show is all ages and FREE!

Espresso Joe’s has great food, coffee, tea, and other beverages of a refreshing (non-alcoholic) nature. They also recently celebrated their 10th anniversary!

Lazlo’s Corner

The other day I received an e-mail from Paul Rosevear’s e-mail list. Paul Rosevear is an amazing singer-songwriter in the local music scene, and I was surprised to see the subject of his e-mail being “I’m Sorry”.

An excerpt from his e-mail followed by my comments are below.

“I have to apologize.

This morning I got an email in my inbox from an artist.

I won't tell you his name, but he was promoting a new album and I hadn't heard from the guy in like 6 months.

It really annoyed me. I was thinking to myself... I haven't heard from you in forever. Why do I care about what you're promoting?

And then I realized I just did the same thing the other day when I emailed you promoting my upcoming shows.

Not the kinda guy I want to be.”

As musicians (or in my case, a small internet radio station), we all are guilty of shamelessly self-promoting ourselves. How else are we going to get the word out about our projects?

The better ones hopefully do it with a bit of tact, be it humor, personally relatable story, insight into the music, etc. (even writing this Lazlo’s Corner hopefully counts).

The better ones build a rapport with their fans so it doesn’t just seem like promotion.

We shouldn’t apologize for wanting to promote our projects, we should just work as hard on crafting our promotional e-mails as we do on the project’s we are promoting.

I know I am guilty of sometimes being lazy with Lazlo’s Corner…well maybe lazy is a poor choice of words, really it is too busy to put the effort into it that I’d like too. Running an internet station as a hobby (i.e. I do this in my spare time, and work a regular day job to make money), means not having enough time to do everything I would like to. This newsletter is usually the first thing to be affected.

My point is (do I have a point? I hope so), promotion is a fact of life for people to get the word out about their projects. Hopefully, since people signed up to get promotional e-mails from the people running the projects, people aren’t annoyed by these communications, and if they are, all they need to do is to ask to be remove from said communications list.

[written during a brief lunch break, so hopefully this makes sense]
