Lazlo’s Corner

This weekend is one of those weekends where I am trying to be two places at once.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, throughout Asbury Park is the Music In Film Festival. The fest will feature a plethora of screenings of music related films (documentaries, videos, concert films), as well as some unique live music performances.

Also this weekend, Saturday & Sunday, are the farewell shows for former Espresso Joe's owner Ed Kok. If you've been a solo/duo singer-songwriter in NJ in the last 11 years, you have probably played at Espresso Joe's. The little coffeehouse has been a big supporter of original music since they opened, and Ed himself has been a huge supporter too. He didn't put on shows at Espresso Joe's because he thought they'd bring in a lot of money (though I'm sure he hoped), he put on shows because he likes the music, and like me, wants to "support good music". While the new owners will be keeping live original music going at Espresso Joe's, dozens of musicians will be part of the two marathon shows , as we thank Ed for all he's done for the local music scene.
