Programming note: Last Wednesday a last minute emergency came up that precluded me from doing Lazlo's Den Live. We instead did it on Thursday. This week (barring any emergencies), Lazlo's Den Live will return to Wednesday @ 7pm.

The next Free Summer Concert Series @ Espresso Joe's is this Saturday, July 18th!

There is no better place to see music outdoors this summer than outside Espresso Joe's overlooking the water and the sunset (weather permitting. In case of rain the show is moved inside Espresso Joe's).

This is an opportunity to see some great electric bands, in a lovely outdoor environment!

This month's show features 1L, Mike Clifford, & Fun While You Wait!

The show is free, all ages, and starts at 7pm sharp.

Espresso Joe's is at 50 West Front Street, in Keyport, NJ.

Lazlo’s Corner

I posted this on, as well as sent it to Kid Rock's people. I figured I'd post it here also. I'll let you know if get a response from Mr. Ritchie.

Commentary - An Open Letter To Kid Rock

Dear Mr. Ritchie (aka Kid Rock),

In 2012 you made the following PSA with Sean Penn to try to encourage civil discourse.

Just this past week you told anti-confederate flag protesters to, “kiss my ass/Ask me some questions.”

Ok, here are some questions:

Do you think telling people you disagree with to, “kiss my ass”, is a civil way to discuss a disagreement?

What does the confederate flag mean to you, and why do you feel the need to continue to use it during your shows, in spite of the polarizing effects?

To many Americans the confederate flag is a symbol of slavery. A symbol of hatred, oppression, and associated with lynchings and the KKK. Maybe that is not the way you see it, but can you understand why those that see the confederate flag as a reminder of those things would protest your use of the flag?

Were you aware that before the Nazis co-opted the swastika symbol that it was a sign of good fortune and well being?

Would you put a swastika on your stage? Presumably not, because people see it as a symbol of hatred, oppression, mass killings, and not as a symbol of good luck.

Have you ever tried to understand why people dislike the confederate flag, and do not see it in the same light you presumably do?

While I don’t believe your intent of using the confederate flag is as a symbol of hate, the symbol was created at the start of the Civil War to defend slavery. It re-emerged throughout the south in the 1960’s in direct opposition to the civil rights marches, and is used today by people like Dylann Roof, to show their racist hatred.

Maybe this open letter can make you see things the way I, and many others, see things, maybe not.

I did however civilly state my point of view without resorting to name calling or telling you to, “kiss my ass.”

It is my hope that you return a civil response and we can have an honest dialogue.

Thank you.

Larry Seltzer (aka Lazlo)
