Lazlo's Corner

20 years... it's hard to believe how much things have changed in that time.

December 15th, 2000 I decided to start BlowUpRadio.com as a way to help promote New Jersey's local indie music scene.

There was no Spotify or iTunes. No Facebook, Twitter, or Youtube... or even MySpace.

Google had not yet taken over as the only search engine, people were Asking Jeeves, Yahoo, and Altavista, among others. AOL (Always Off-Line?) was still the dominant internet provider, and with dial up speeds, downloading a song took somewhere between 10 minutes and an eternity.

20 years later, it has become much easier for a local artist to promote themselves, though also that much easier to get lost in the internet, with so many artists trying to get their music heard.

I am happy to still be here, and still love doing what I do!

I have been lucky enough to befriend many musicians over the years, watch as projects come to an end, and new projects begin. In fact, that is the idea behind our special Tuesday at 6pm, Then & Now, playing a song from an act from the early days of BlowUpRadio.com and a more recent song from a newer project with one or more of the same members.

That special will be followed at 8pm where I will be interviewed by musician, friend, and BlowUpRadio.com superfan, Vic Fraternale. We'll be talking about the last 20 years, and playing songs from some of the thousands of acts I have been lucky enough to play over the years.

Whether you are new to BlowUpRadio.com, or have been with us since the beginning back in 2000, I can't thank you enough for listening and being part of our #SupportGoodMusic campaign.

Looking forward to spending the next 20 years with you!

I am starting to schedule 2021 Guitar Pulls, continuing to do them virtually using Skype (so that we can all see each other, but only the audio will be broadcast). They will continue to be on Thursdays, though they will now be from 7pm until around 8:30pm (one hour earlier).

As a refresher, the show is 3 singer-songwriters performing round-robin style, sharing songs and stories.

If interested, please contact me.

A MESSAGE FROM CATHERINE WACHA
After battling Lupus and Chronic Kidney disease resulting in End Stage Renal failure, I was lucky enough to receive a much needed kidney transplant at the beginning of September. This was a wonderful gift that came at a less than ideal time. Due to being extremely high risk I had to take a leave from my job to stay safe from Covid-19. I was on unemployment until I had my surgery and am currently awaiting a ruling on my Social Security Disability Insurance eligibility and have no income. My wife and I have enough saving to get us through a few months but without my salary we are unable to afford out monthly expenses and my care beyond that.

Going back to my office at the height of cold and flu season with the added risk of Covid-19 is very dangerous for me. The post transplant medications heavily suppress my immune system so if I am exposed to Covid-19 I will almost certainly lose the newly transplanted kidney if I don't also lose my life.
